A requirement of Part M Sub Part G or previously JAR-145 is that any amendments to maintenance manuals, service bulletins, airworthiness directives etc are reviewed and any findings or recommendations are recorded.
At present we do this using our own Access Database which looks after library revisions, review findings and subscriptions.
We would rather use CAFAM to look after our library but it would require a few changes, the main ones being.
a) A field to record review findings for each amendment/revision. This may be as little as "Not applicable" or "No action required" or may run to a memo field of some 100+ characters i.e. " Applicable to B737 at 10000 ldgs, operator informed 10/01/06 and addition to AMP recommended."
b) A history file which records amendment revison history along with review comments etc. Put simply, as part of an audit the authority may ask to see what amendments have been received to the Aircraft Maintenance Manual in the last 12 months and what actions have been taken.
Any AOC operator in an EASA state now has to be able to show a review history of publications issue by the Authorityand Manufacturers. The same will be applicable for all aircraft owners / operators in EASA states from September 2008 (This ia a CAA deadline and may be different for other EASA states). Non AOC operators will be able to contract this function to a Sub Part G approved company in 2008 but it still means that Technical Records departments will need some means to record what documents have been received and that a review was carried out along with findings / recommendations so I think this would be a valuable addition to CAFAM.
Any other users out there having to address the same requirement ?
