The way in which AMP handles variations to tasks is causing a few problems.
Operators usually apply an extension to only one life i.e. hours or calendar, but CAFAM applies the extension to all parameters. i.e. if you have a task which is 300 hours or one year and you want to apply a 30 hour (10%) extension to the task, CAFAM will apply 10% to both lives and not only apply an extension to the calendar life which has not been approved but also exceed the allowable extension for the calendar life. (The maximum variation for a one year task allowed in SMP is 1 month i.e. about 8.4 %)
Also, with variations to a calendar life, CAFAM's use of a percentage variation gives problems. Sometimes the percentage will not give the correct date i.e 6.7 % is a day early and 6.8% is two days late.
Is it possible to vary just one parameter and in the case of calendar life by a specific number of days ?
I have my own fix for the above problems but it involves exploiting a loop hole in the program which will not be popular with John.

How about if we prompt the Next Due times. Currently, the percentage you enter is followed by a "Done" announcement (i.e. after you have entered the Call-up). What I think would work is to prompt the new Times after calculation to either accept or amend...as found necessary.

Sound like a fix, I just ran a check to ensure that the old figures are still in view after you apply the variation and it seems to work.
For example, if you want to apply a variation of 10% to the calendar life of a check, when you apply the 10% variation the screen shows both the old "Time remaining" and the new "Next due" so you would have the opportunity to set the next due hours back to the old value still shown in the "Time remaining" field thus undoing the variation to this parameter.
If the new varied calendar date is out by a couple of days you could also amend this at the same point in the routine.
Thanks

Have added this to our "to-do" list for a future revision

We have experienced the same problem.
The 'fix' looks good and we look forward to the revision.

We have made this change to the Program. Now available in Rev 5e.44. You can now Edit the Variation values to suit

Word of caution to those using the variation routine and adjusting the amount. The field does not right justify in the same manner as other fields, nor does it delete the previous entries.
As an example. You vary a task by 10% and the hours remaining shows "10.0", the cursor will sit at the left hand side of the field and if you then type "9.0" and hit return you will end up with all your worksheets and reports showing time remaining as "9.010.0" I am not sure what will happen if you then run a forecast as i've always made sure I keep everything to the left.
J.D. - Any chance of a fix on the next revision ?

John,
The change allowing the user to adjust variations after the percentage is applied is now working fine for the tasks but you need to include it in the routine for varying component lives.
I just tried to align the calendar removal of a PCU with the engine overhaul date and it will not work as a precentage. I fiddled the figures to fit but it needs to be the same as the "variation to tasks" routine.
Thanks
